We are delighted to publish the 10th volume,1st issue, 2019 of the Advanced Materials Letters with the editorial on the ‘Current Scenario of Healthcare’. Medical errors pertaining to health care has been growing over the last decade and some studies depict that they are quite difficult to manage. Numerous investigations center around patients encountering damage and give a significant understanding of the extent of mischief coming about because of blunders. The Different investigations, more constrained in number, center around the event of mistakes, both those that outcome in mischief and those that don't (now and then called ''close misses"). It is found to get more faults the doctor’s facilities than in other medicinal services conveyance settings. Blending and translating the discoveries in the writing related to mistakes in human services is convoluted because of the nonappearance of institutionalized terminology. For reasons, in this report, the terms mistake and antagonistic occasion are characterized as pursues: A blunder is characterized as the disappointment of an arranged activity to be finished as expected or the utilization of a wrong intend to accomplish a point. An unfriendly occasion is a damage caused by medicinal administration as opposed to the basic state of the patient.

Pandemics have threatened human civilization time and again. Currently, the whole world is dealing with COVID-19, a never seen situation in a hundred years, after the deadly Spanish Flu during 1918-1920. With no specific medicines or vaccines, the best way to keep infections under control is by maintaining personal hygiene and social distancing, as per WHO guidelines. Hygiene and sanitization are ensured with clean water, a highly stressed resource in today's times. In this perspective, we try to cover the immediate management of water resources and sanitation facilities in stalling the spread of the pandemic. Further, suggestions regarding robust water and sanitation infrastructure and management practices have been discussed that can be adopted by the administration and modified as per local requirements. This pandemic is no less than a disaster, though not natural, but ecological. Past epidemics are pointing towards an increase in the occurrence of a public health crisis of current magnitude and more. This calls for a paradigm shift towards development and preparedness.

Self-sealing polymers possess the virtue to seal small punctures/cracks/damages automatically whenever occurred in the materials/components during their service. This behaviour of self-sealing in polymeric materials is inspired by the biological system in which self-sealing is a usual phenomenon. There are many self-sealing approaches demonstrated by researchers which are being applied in many polymeric components and systems to prevent them from catastrophic failure. The sealant materials in these systems are the main parts which play a crucial role in the sealing phenomenon. This review article describes self-sealing phenomenon, sealant materials and their applications in the various strategic materials and systems namely self-sealing spacecraft structures in the meteoroid environments, self-sealing fuel tank for fighter aircrafts, self-sealing hemostatic syringe to prevent bleeding, self-sealing tires to prevent punctures and concrete structures to prevent water leakages etc.

Since the advent of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), various industrial sectors have been significantly affected. Considering the widespread threat of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, scientists worldwide have been working at a rapid pace to understand the virus, develop vaccines and find possible treatment options. Drastic public health measures such as social distancing, use of PPE, quarantine and complete lockdown have been implemented globally to minimize the spread of the virus. Whilst these measures currently seem the only plausible option, they come at the price of compromised economies. Though there are many collaterally affected industries, this review paper highlights current and forecasted changes in manufacturing, medical, climate change, energy and food processing sectors. Some of these sectors have been positively impacted, such as climate change, whilst others have experienced mixed consequences. Some also face an uphill rebuilding processes, which needs to begin sooner rather than later. This paper highlights important recent developments and perspectives on how industries may adapt and learn from COVID-19.

Herein, the mechanistic approach to understanding the characteristic properties of the deadliest virus (COVID-19) has been corroborated. The nano-sized (160-200 nm, in diameter) virus along with the crucial role of spikes (length ~10 nm) has been deliberated. The distorted protein envelope followed by the amino-acid sequence mismatching lead to replicate the virus. Fragmented ssRNA further make duplicate template copies through the mutations for net-work entanglement. Mutations lead to an increase in population density of virus uncountable. Drastic increase in the virus shows an adverse effect on the immune system. The inflamed sacs of lungs will not allow the exchange of gases and ultimately lead to pneumonia/SARS-CoV2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome of coronavirus). The glycoprotein of spike spindles fuses the surface of lung cells through the binding affinity and slowdown the activity of antibodies. Inflammation caused because of the replicated complex of virus blocks the passage of gases O2, CO2 which lead to severe cough and respiratory problems. This unusual phenomenon of pneumonia leads to death. Further, massive computing is needed to understand the exact detrimental consequences of COVID-19 followed by the drug and vaccine development.

Nanomaterials play very prominent role in physical, chemical and biomedical engineering applications due their high surface energies. Also the electronic configuration of atoms within the materials is very important since this principally detrmines the type of bonding and thus electrical, optical, luminescent, mechanical and magnetic properties. At nanoscale dimensions, materials exhibit entirely different properties as compared to thieir bulk counterpart. Noble metallic nanoparticles/nanostructures exhibit interesting feature of localised surface plasmon resonant; absorption can be tuned from ultraviolet region to infrared region of electromagnetic spectrum and this field has been developed to deliver potential applications in photonics, optoelectronics, optical-data storage, solar cells, filters, sensors not to mention the considerable scope in medical engineering, such as DNA labeling, tumor and cancer therapy etc.
